4 Things I Can Do With A Paper Clip

Here's some cool things that I can do with a paper clip! Please note that although it's cool to disable bombs using paper clips like MacGyver, these are way more useful than his plain old moves.

1. Tie Bar: Wearing a suit to work was something I did regularly and it was something I looked forward to on a regular basis. However, for someone who wears ties knows that one of the most annoying things to deal with on a windy day is your tie flying all over the place! For this reason, I purchased a tie bar that would help keep my tie in place rather than looking unprofessional and all over. Certain days where I would forget to wear my tie bar, I came up with the perfect solution. By simply inserting a paper clip onto my ties and dress shirts, it not only kept my tie from blowing all over but added a nice fashionable touch.

2. Unlock/Pick a door lock: I grew up in a house that was filled with children. At times, we would have up to 8 kids during family get togethers which happened every week! Many of them would run around playing games and lock themselves in bedrooms, washrooms, you name it. Thankfully these door locks were accessible from the outside of the door and one of the ways we would open them was by using a paper clip. What you needed to do was unfold the paper clip twice and make it as straight as possible. The doorknob had a small circular hole that you would have to insert the paper clip into until it hit the back. If the paper clip was inserted directly straight, you would have to apply some force and this would allow the locks lever to open. With the other hand you simply had to twist the door knob. Voila!

3. Dress Shirt Collar: A flimsy collar is something that annoys me a lot! I like my dress shirts well ironed giving them a crisp look. Often dress shirts have an insert that goes into the collar keeping it straight and looking clean, however, during they're often misplaced and get lost during washes. They're sturdy, accessible and do a great job!

4.Replace a Broken Zipper: Something I learned from years of skiing is that paper clips make wonderful zippers. During my childhood, the zippers on my winter jackets would break at least once a year. Instead of fixing them on a regular basis, I would replace the broken zipper with a matching colored paper clip. Boom, you got yourself a fixed zipper!
